well, certainly there is some rumble in france. but when i was speaking to my french friends, they said these incidents are not uncommon and do happen regularly. agreed, this time its a bit more but its not as much as been blown out by media (and esp US one).
and then, as a point, they pointed out all the stories about india (bomb blasts, riots, crimes etc etc) asking whether the image portrayed is true and then i realized that in this "gobellian" era, only first-hand info is reliable.
